STORIES

Local people, for local issues

When people visit my website, I want them to understand my “why”. That’s always the first question I get-  why community advocacy and why politics?

I’m not a career politician, never have been and never will be. For me, it’s about rolling up my sleeves, getting involved, and working hard for the community I love.

Politics, to me, isn’t about climbing a ladder, chasing titles or leaving a legacy. It’s about delivering real outcomes for real people; my friends, my neighbours, and everyone who makes our community what it is. That’s why I started volunteering in our local community, to make it better for everyone, and it’s why I’m still here today.

I believe politics needs balance. We need career politicians, sure, but we also need genuine grassroots representation; people who actually live in the community they serve. Too often, we see local representatives who don’t live locally, and I’ve always wondered how they can truly understand our challenges if they’re not experiencing them firsthand.

When I get caught in traffic on Shelley Bridge, High Road or Leach Highway, when one of our beloved pets is attacked or injured on a walk or if one our kids has an issue at school; I’m affected too.

I live it, just like everyone else. That’s what makes me passionate about standing up and speaking out. Because who better to represent you than someone who shares your daily reality?

People in our community love supporting local business. Almost all our cafes, restaurants and community groups are run by locals and employ local people.

Whether it’s grabbing a coffee after dropping the kids at school at one of our many favourite cafes or popping into the Rivo for a beer after work, supporting one another is what we do best.

That is why when the government squeezes small business which affects our favourite local businesses and the employment of our friends and family members, I will be there in the trenches with them, standing up for what is right.
